I know writers who can only write when they are in their writing space.
They have everything set up for them with all the tools they need to research, write and produce.
Except...
... they still get nothing completed.
What causes this phenomenon?
When you think you have to have everything in place to be able to produce, any distraction will stop you.
It could be the phone ringing,
an email comes in,
you get an alert on your screen about a new post somewhere,
someone knocks on the door,
the postman goes past,
you get offered a coffee,
a bird flies past the window,
etc.
Every distraction costs you the time it takes to respond, plus around another 20 minutes to get back to the same head-space.
The best way to overcome this problem is to force yourself to write in many different locations.
Starbucks,
the library,
in a bar,
in the park,
at a sporting event.
Anywhere you can find that has distractions galore.
Your writing doesn't have to be good.
It just has to be written and posted somewhere.
I'm writing this email as the granddaughter is playing the xylophone, and people are cooking and moving around the kitchen where I'm sitting.
That's why I thought of writing about the art of distraction-free writing.
Try it out, it's liberating.
Regards,
Brent.
P.S. One great way to practise writing is to write an email a day.
Your writing will improve, and having a daily deadline to meet helps keep your mind actively looking for content every day.
If you don't have a subscriber list yet, you need to do this challenge to set up an autoresponder with follow-up emails in 30 minutes.
Once that's done, you must send traffic to the landing page if you want to build the list.
But, you can start writing to your list even if it only has one subscriber.
That person will not know if you are writing to one or ten thousand.
