Why A.I. is neither Artificial nor Intelligent.
Let's start from the back.
Intelligence implies thinking.
None of the current crop of A.I. tools think.
There is no thinking involved, and therefore no Intelligence involved either.
There is nothing Artificial about this either.
What you have is a computer program, which is real, not artificial.
That computer program searches through its massive database to find enough data to output for you to see.
That's how search engines work.
That's how translation tools work.
That's how ChatGPT works.
That's how all A.I. tools work, and they regularly get it wrong because of the subtle nuances of language.
All of them will hit a wall where they cannot progress because they are not thinking machines.
They are data-regurgitating machines.
It's like a man going to the moon by climbing a tree.
He can report steady progress until he reaches the top of the tree.
That does not mean that they are not helpful.
On the contrary, their use comes in being able to find and regurgitate data faster than you can research it yourself.
I use Dall-e every day to create the images I use here
https://wm-tips.substack.com
, and I use the A.I. in Grammarly every day to write these emails, although I don't always accept the suggestions.
I use the A.I. in the Google search engine to find out many things, but even that has become much harder as their results are becoming less accurate.
You'll do fine if you treat all of these tools as specialised search engines and don't accept their output as being 100% accurate.
Regards,
Brent.
P.S. One other place I'm taking advantage of the ability of A.I. tools to speed up my daily work is with TrafficLinkr, https://go.wm-tips.com/linkr, because with this tool, I don't have to search for blogs to like or comment on.
TrafficLinkr does that for me and will even write the comment based on the blog post.
I edit about 10% of those by adding or subtracting bits, but most of the comments I can click to submit and move to the next one without reading the post.
That saves me roughly 5 minutes for each comment.
Ten comments a day is at least an hour's work reduced to minutes.
