What happens when you don't check stuff before sending.
An email hit my inbox today and may have hit yours too.
The subject line began: NAME - $400/Day With...
The body of the email began: Hey frank.
That isn't my name nor one I have ever used except for testing my stuff.
Notice two things here.
The mail merge didn't have a default to use in the subject line, and the default in the body wasn't capitalised.
I only opened the email to see what the body was like.
The subject line wouldn't usually bring an open from me, and I didn't read beyond the first line or two.
This type of laziness is rife online.
Many online marketers don't take enough care with their emails or sales pages to be sure that they are presenting themselves in the most positive light possible.
If/when you want to run a mail merge with your emails, please ensure you have either a first name to use or a valid default as a fallback.
Not all autoresponders will allow you to set up a default, so this tactic may not be possible.
The other common problem is people using the wrong word in a sentence.
The spellchecker will tell you it's correct, but the meaning may differ from what you wish to portray.
That bit is not so easy because there are differences between the different English speaking countries in the words they use and the meanings they have.
As I usually say, we are divided by a common language.
I do not doubt that the same happens with other languages across countries.
It probably happens within countries as well.
