What does 'good' content look like and does it matter?
There is an elephant in the room, you may not be able to see it, but there is a big pile of something smelly in the corner that could only have one source.
That big pile is the duplicate content myth that you'll see perpetuated anytime someone asks about content for their site.
"You have to have high-quality, unique content". B.S.
According to Google webmaster documents, a site with multiple pages of essentially the same content designed to manipulate the search engines will be penalised.
They called it duplicate content, which it is, but they never said that you would be penalised if you have the same content on multiple sites.
That means that the only thing to address is what does good content look like.
Good content doesn't have a word length.
It could be 300 words or 3,000 words, but 3,000 words of fluffy filler content are not good content where 300 words of straightforward and valuable content would fit the criteria.
Generally, it isn't easy to create helpful content in less than 300 words.
The point, though, is that you should provide useful content in however many words it takes and stop.
Stephen King was once asked how he knew when to stop writing, and he said it's when he couldn't think of anything else to write.
Where do you get the ideas to write about?
I use answerthepublic.com to get the questions people ask about a subject.
Then I group them and answer them.
If you can put five questions together and write about 300 useful words about each one, you'll have a 1,500-word article of value that will rank for multiple keywords.
Put an introduction and a summary on the article, and you're up to 2,000 words easily.
Then you can grab each question and answer and use them as separate posts on those web 2.0 sites I have mentioned recently.
That single source can keep you writing quality articles for months, if not years.
Regards,
Brent.
