The hidden reason people keep buying shiny objects.
They call it “Shiny Object Syndrome”, but that’s not really fair because there is a psychological reason people keep buying stuff they don’t need.
It doesn’t only happen with Internet Marketing products.
People with this issue are also known as shopaholics, but there is something deeper than that.
People buy for two main reasons:
They want to feel better and move away from pain/suffering.
They want to feel better and move closer to pleasure.
The biggest issue with humanity is we’re bored to death.
We spend money to keep ourselves entertained.
Basically, we try to solve all our problems through the act of buying.
Rich Schefren is right that people buy for emotional reasons, but that reason never gets satisfied.
That’s what the big companies and those pesky Internet Gurus understand.
They sell us things to solve our emotional issues, knowing full well that the act of buying only temporarily solves those emotions, and we’ll be ready to buy again in a few days.
Understanding that is all well and good, but how does that help us?
Now you know the motivations it becomes easier to resist them.
The best way to resist urge to buy the latest “must have” tool is to have a purpose.
Something you’re working towards.
Then you can ask the important question.
“Will this new thing help me reach my purpose faster today?”
If it won’t help you today, don’t buy it.
By the time it might help you, there will be something better, or you won’t need it.
A bargain is not a bargain if you never use it.
Spend less, save more, and reach your targets faster.
Regards,
Brent.
