The #1 reason to write and send emails.
The #1 reason to write and send any email is to get a click on a link to another page.
Secondary reasons include responding to enquiries, introducing yourself, and warming up a cold list.
Still, the reality is that every email should have a link to another page for more information about whatever.
The email should paint a word picture of the benefit the reader will find at the end of that link unless you write emails in the style of Tony Shepherd and lead with entertainment or information before segueing to a sales pitch.
Most of the emails I read regularly provide entertainment in one form or another before the pitch.
Sometimes the pitch is so low-key that it's little more than a 'click here' with the link.
When you write interesting emails to your list, you'll get good engagement which is demonstrated in the sales you get.
Open rates do not demonstrate engagement.
They demonstrate that your subject line got an open.
There is no proof that they read the rest of the email.
Even a click doesn't demonstrate that they read the email.
No metric can show that.
When you get responses to your emails, it shows that some people read them.
Sales are the only thing that shows engagement.
My stats show that I get more clicks on emails with lower open rates.
Not just as a percentage of the opens but as a total number as well.
The more clicks you can get, the more sales you can make.
Writing better emails is the only way to get more clicks and sales.
