I got paid by Amazon today.
I have one book in the Kindle universe that I wrote in 10 days a long time ago.
It sold pretty well for a while and gradually tapered off.
It was never a best-seller or ever destined to be one because it was in a very tiny niche.
But it still sells a copy or two a month, and I still get commission on it.
This cheque is for $124.94 and has been accumulating for six years.
Not gunna be retiring on that, but the point is that this is a genuinely passive income.
I wrote the book in a very short time because I knew the subject very well.
I published it originally on CreateSpace as a POD book and sold one copy in the first year.
I then added it to Kindle because Amazon suggested it, and it sold reasonably for a year or two.
I have never done any promotion for it at all.
Imagine what a difference there could have been if I wrote more books in the same niche and promoted them.
One of my online friends has just completed a challenge he set himself and announced to the group.
He wrote and published 500 short books this year.
They are not academically brilliant, and they are in diverse niches.
Notably, he wrote them all in English, which is not his native tongue.
Currently, he has built a four-figure income from them.
Now he'll most likely leave them alone for a while to see what happens.
Was this hard for him?
Not likely, he created a list of possible topics, researched the content, wrote it in his words and published them under a nom-de-plume.
Authors who spend ages researching and crafting a book will be horrified at this tactic, but we all do what we can, and we do what works.
He plans to write up a case study of what he did, and I'll get you access when he does.
Regards,
Brent.
P.S. Passive income is the holy grail for some.
Everything will work better when you promote it, at least for a while initially.
I understand that you want to avoid spending any money before you start to make some, I was the same, so I get it.
However, I also know that you will have to spend some money to scale any at some stage.
Not today though, over the weekend I wrote an article that gives an overview on how you can start for free and get to be making money before you spend any.
As part of that conversation that triggered this article, I was thinking about those people who only have a mobile phone to work with.
Two products fill the bill.
LeadsLeap, https://go.wm-tips.com/llhome, and Wordpress.com.
I've tried both on my mobile, and they do work, it's not easy to do, but you can set up your Internet business on your mobile with those at no cost.
