"Our photocopier stinks."
That was the report I had to work with.
As an Office Machine Technician, I had many strange faults to fix, but this was the oddest.
The location was a cattle feedlot.
A feedlot is where cattle are kept for live export until their ship arrives.
Obviously, you have to keep them fed and watered so they remain in good condition for their sea voyage.
Wherever there is cattle feed, there are mice; where there are mice, there are snakes.
I was a little apprehensive about this smell.
I figured either burning or jamming with a body in poor condition.
It turned out to be a dead mouse.
It had been caught in the drive chain when the copier started.
Cleaning it out wasn't fun, and I didn't want to do it again, so I devised a preventative measure.
We designed, built, and fitted a heavy-duty canvas mouse-proof bag for the photocopier.
I never needed to remove a body from that copier again.
Sometimes the solution to a problem is not obvious, but there is always an innovative solution to every problem.

Brent.

Don't use the one that stinks.
