How to lose the list you built.
Unfortunately, losing your list is all too easy.
Many people have horror stories to tell.
Some, particularly newbies, get sucked into promoting a landing page they do not control because they've joined a "Team".
It seems like a good idea.
Join a team and build your list together.
That's gotta be a great plan.
The more people promoting the landing page, the faster the list grows and the faster you get your share of the revenue.
What could possibly go wrong?
What if the list owner, the team leader, decides to take the list and run?
What will you do about it?
What can you do about it?
Absolutely nothing.
You've been royally screwed.
It happens.
OK, how about a better deal?
You join a company affiliate program that offers an 'all-inclusive platform' and has its own autoresponder, landing pages and follow-up email sequence.
All you have to do is promote their landing page.
All is cool while it works, but the company goes out of business, and all your hard work goes with it.
Again all your work is down the toilet.
Other ways to lose your list are to get hacked, forget to pay the account fees, have your autoresponder company decide you're a spammer and shut your account down, or perhaps they decide that they don't like your email content and cancel you.
All those things have happened to people making a good living from email marketing, and all those problems are preventable.
The first step you should do every time you get new subscribers is to download the list.
Once it's downloaded, it's yours.
No one can take it away from you.
Lose your account?
No problem.
Set up a new one and upload the list.
At most, your email marketing is delayed by a day.
If you use someone else's platform, run your subscribers through your autoresponder first or simultaneously capture their email address.
There are simple ways to do that, even if you have to use Zapier.
Regards,
Brent.
P.S. Listen up, my fellow marketers.
I know some of you believe that getting traffic is an insurmountable task.
And you know what?
It can be, if you approach it the wrong way.
The problem lies in constantly seeking external sources of traffic.
You chase after Facebook, Google, Bing, YouTube, and whatnot, thinking they hold the keys to your success.
But here's the harsh truth: those platforms make it darn difficult because they're after your money, not your triumph.
But let me share a secret that will revolutionize your online endeavours.
It's time to stop relying on the whims of these traffic-gobbling giants.
You need to embrace the traffic you can control, traffic that flows at your command.
And what is this traffic powerhouse, you ask?
It's none other than your very own email list.
Oh, I know you saw it coming.
But let me tell you, my friend, it's the unvarnished truth.
Once you build an engaged email list, the game changes completely.
Traffic becomes a cakewalk—a mere act of crafting a compelling email and hitting that send button.
Picture it: a few strokes on your keyboard, and boom, your message is delivered directly into the inboxes of eager subscribers who are primed to hear what you have to say.
Now, I can already hear the doubters grumbling, "But Brent, isn't email marketing dead?"
Ha! I beg to differ.
In this noisy online world, your email list becomes a secret weapon—a direct line to your audience's attention.
While others fuss over the ever-changing algorithms of social media, you'll be smiling as your email lands in front of your tribe, free from the shackles of arbitrary rules and pay-to-play schemes.
So, my friend, it's time to shift your focus.
Instead of tirelessly chasing after external traffic, turn your attention inward.
Nurture your email list, cultivate those relationships, and watch as traffic flows effortlessly with every email you send.
Remember, in this digital battlefield, the power lies in your hands, and your email list is the ultimate traffic machine.
