How to be a better marketer.
My goal today is to try and help you become a better marketer.
Wait!
Did you hear that sound?
That was the sound of 80% of the people who opened this email clicking to close it and move on to the next one.
The reason for that is simple.
And I can't emphasise this enough.
The fact is that most people don't want to learn about being a better marketer.
Most people don't want to learn at all about anything.
Actually, I'll rephrase that.
Most people don't want to take the initiative to learn something.
When it comes to learning, they just want to be spoon-fed the info.
Have you ever come across a perennial student?
My first housemate in Adelaide was one of them.
I'm talking about the type who's always looking to gain the next qualification.
For those types, learning isn't what interests them.
They just like having an M.A., M.B.A, or Ph.D after their name.
They want to be told everything, they don't want to learn.
That's why they'll lap up formal education courses that involve manuals, textbooks, and the like.
But ask them to read a PDF or watch a few training videos, and they'll scream and shout,' It's too long '.
The difference is that formal education gives them a conclusion.
They know they have to sit a test or write an essay at the end of it.
But what happens when you finish a PDF or a course?
There is no conclusion.
In the end, it's up to you, the reader, to decide what to do next.
Maybe they've learnt something from the PDF they can use or apply in their daily lives.
Maybe the 12-video course has recommended a tool to buy.
But the reader isn't obligated to follow through with what they've learnt or to act on the recommendation.
Whatever happens next is entirely up to the reader.
That's the liberating, wonderful, and, for some people, scary aspect of being an independent marketer.
Get it right, and you can boast to your pals that you're a great marketer.
Get it wrong, and if you're like most marketers, you'll keep quiet about it.
But that in itself is wrong.
The first step to understanding that you've made a mistake and how to fix it is to acknowledge the mistake.
So, how do you learn to be a better marketer?
You read and read and read.
And you learn and learn and learn.
The Internet changes constantly, and if you don't keep yourself current, you will be left behind.
Regards,
Brent.
