Hey!
We are in Alice Springs, and the Internet is much better.
The Alice is very different from the place I visited 25 years ago.
I can see that the level of crime has escalated significantly.
The retail outlets have large fences and robust gates for security after hours.
Cameras are everywhere.
Even our caravan park is a bit like an open jail.
There is a large automatic gate to get in, whereas most parks have a boom.
A 3m palisade fence surrounds it, and we have been warned to keep valuables out of sight and everything locked up, so clearly, there is still the threat of theft.
I find this disappointing.
I suspect it's a side effect of paying people to do nothing with no consequences of idleness.
That leads to drug and alcohol abuse and increasing crime levels to pay for it.
I don't have answers, but I don't think throwing more money at the problem solves anything.
I suspect that developing a sense of worth and pride would go a long way to sorting out some of the issues.
Regards,
Brent.
