They say you should strike while the iron is hot...
But how do you know when the iron is hot unless you are a blacksmith? If you are not shaping hot iron, then this is interesting as a metaphor only. Clearly, the meaning is to take advantage of opportunities as they arise, but what happens if an opportunity never arises? What do you do then?
